What Changed
Sony launched cloud streaming on PlayStation Portal on November 5, 2025 at 6 PM Pacific Time. This feature allows PlayStation Plus Premium members to stream select digital PS5 games directly from the cloud without connecting to their home console. The update represents a significant expansion of PlayStation Portal's capabilities beyond its original Remote Play-only functionality.
The update introduced a redesigned home screen with three dedicated tabs: Remote Play for streaming from your console, Cloud Streaming for playing games directly from Sony's cloud servers, and Search for finding available titles. This separation makes it easier to understand which games you are accessing through which method.
New Features and Capabilities
Cloud Streaming enables you to play supported PS5 games from your library without owning a console or when away from your console. The system supports 3D Audio during cloud sessions, delivering spatial sound through the Portal's built-in speakers or connected headphones. You can make in-game purchases while streaming from the cloud, send and receive game invitations to join friends, and monitor your connection quality through a new Network Status screen. Sony also added a Passcode Lock feature to secure your device when not in use.
Requirements and Limitations
Cloud Streaming requires an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, which is the highest tier of PlayStation Plus. The feature is currently available only in supported countries including the United States. Not all PS5 games support cloud streaming; availability depends on publisher agreements and technical compatibility. Sony maintains a list of streamable titles that you can browse through the Cloud Streaming tab on your Portal. Game availability can change over time as licenses are updated or new titles are added to the cloud gaming library.
How to Access Streamable Games
After updating your PlayStation Portal to the latest firmware, open the home screen and select the Cloud Streaming tab. This tab displays all PS5 games in the cloud library that are available to Premium members. You can also use the Search tab to find specific titles and filter by cloud streaming availability. When you select a game, the Portal will indicate whether it supports cloud streaming or requires Remote Play from your console.
Technical Considerations
Cloud streaming quality depends heavily on your internet connection speed and stability. Sony recommends a minimum download speed of 13 Mbps for cloud gaming, though higher speeds will deliver better visual quality and reduced input latency. The Portal uses adaptive streaming to adjust quality based on your current network conditions. If you experience lag or visual artifacts, the Network Status screen can help diagnose whether the issue stems from your connection or server congestion.
